It must be offered treats of live or frozen foods to keep it at its best and display the most colouration. Origin South America; Highfin dwarf cichlids are found in the waterways of Venezuela. Sexing Males will display more colouration and have extended dorsal and anal fins. Breeding This species of cichlid are harem breeders. The male will fertilise several batches of eggs with several different females at the same time. The females will normally lay their eggs on the roof of caves which can be made with upturned plant pots. When the fry are free swimming they can be fed on newly hatched brine shrimp. Lifespan The expected life span for Highfin dwarf cichlid is 3-5 years. Short description A planted tank is preferred by Apistogramma hoignei with the addition of rocks or wood to provide hiding places.
