Try to avoid using feeder fish as they can carry parasites. Origin Central America; Jaguar cichlids are to be found in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Sexing When juvenile, it is impossible to sex these fish. When mature, the male will develop a gold body color with black dots. The males tend to be larger than females as well. Breeding Provide flat surfaces in the breeding tank, as with most cichlids they will also use tank glass as well. The female will tend the eggs while the male defends the spawning site. The fry should hatch out after 3-5 days, a few days later they should be free swimming. At this stage, they can be fed on crushed flake and newly hatched brine shrimp. Lifespan The expected life span for Jaguar cichlids is 15 years. Short description A large tank is required to keep Parachromis managuensis, tank mates should be other large cichlids.
