Blood worms, chopped earthworms and brine shrimp are ideal. Shrimp pellets will also be taken along with chopped cockles. Quality flake should be used on a regular basis. Origin Africa; Neolamprologus mustax is endemic to Lake Tanganyika. Sexing Males will grow larger and when mature will develop a slight cranial hump. Females will tend to have a fuller body shape. Breeding Provide some upturned plant pots in the tank as these fish are cave spawners. The eggs will be laid on the roof of the cave and both parents will stay inside until the eggs have hatched. Once hatching has taken place the female will drive the male out and rear the brood herself. When the fry are free swimming, they can be fed on Infusoria or rotifers. Lifespan The expected life span for Neolamprologus mustax is 15 years. Short description It is best to keep at least two females with every male. They are tolerant of other fish if the tank is large enough but provide hiding places by using rocks or wood.
