They will certainly enjoy a snack of live or frozen food but should only receive them sparingly. Sexing Male and female Severums of the same color variety will usually have the same colorations. The difference will be in the clarity of the color and the patterns on the face. The male will have both the brighter coloring and the pattern on his face while the female will be paler in comparison and lack the facial patterns. Breeding This delayed mouthbrooder will lay up to 1000 eggs on a flat, clean rock and wait for them to hatch. Once the fry emerge from their eggs the female takes her brood into her mouth and keeps them safe from harm. Lifespan The Severum Cichlid is able to live for more than 10 years. Origin Heros severus is native to the Amazon River in South America where the waters are calm and deep. Short Description There are many different color variations of the Severum.
