Origin Africa; this species is found in Lake Tanganyika. Sexing It is believed that the females are slightly larger than the males. Breeding The bonding between pairs with this species is quite strong. They are cave spawners, caves or rockwork need to be provided to have any success. It is not always apparent when they have spawned but tell tale signs are when the fish drive away all of the other fish from the cave. Adding newly hatched brine shrimp to the tank will guarantee any fry getting food. The fry will stay in the cave until the parents are ready to spawn again; they are then kicked out into the open tank. Lifespan The expected life span for Striped julie is 10 years.
