They will accept quality flakes but this should not be a major part of their diet. Origin South America; Yellow dwarf cichlids are to be found in the Amazon Basins of Brazil and Paraguay. Sexing Males will display more coloration and be larger than the females. They will also have extended dorsal and anal fins. In the aquarium some of the lesser males may display less coloration to avoid conflicts with the dominant male. Breeding One male should be housed with 3-4 females. The eggs will be laid in caves or upturned plant pots and the female will tend the eggs. The male will defend the territory from intruders, often with great vigor. Once the fry are free swimming, they can be fed on newly hatched brine shrimp. Lifespan The expected life span for Apistogramma borellii is 3-5 years.
